Professional Corporation

Incorporating as a Psychology Professional Corporation

Amendments were made to the Business Corporations Act, 1990 to allow health care providers, regulated under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, to incorporate their practices.  Members of the College of Psychologists who choose to form a professional corporation must first incorporate with the Ontario Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery (formerly the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services) and then apply to the College for a Certificate of Authorization for a Health Profession Corporation.  A corporation must have a Certificate of Authorization issued by the College in order for the Corporation to practice the profession of psychology.

Please read the Guide carefully, and complete all sections of the Application, as well as the required Declaration and UndertakingsTake special note of the naming criteria. The Business Corporations Act, 1990 and Ontario Regulation 39/02 under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, are very specific regarding the rules for naming a professional corporation.  The name must not contain titles, professional designations or academic levels.

If you have any questions about the process of obtaining a Certificate for Authorization for a Health Profession Corporation that have not been answered by the Guide, please e-mail the College at corporations@cpo.on.ca or phone (416) 961-8817/(800) 489-8388.
