General Information

There are two Certificates of Registration Authorizing Autonomous practice available in Ontario.

  1. For a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Autonomous Practice as a Psychologist, you require a doctoral degree in psychology; and
  2. For a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Autonomous Practice as a Psychological Associate, you require a master’s degree in psychology.

Applicants must apply for a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Supervised Practice before they can proceed to meet the remaining requirements for the Certificate of Registration Authorizing Autonomous Practice.

The Certificate of Registration Authorizing Supervised Practice is intended for persons who have not previously been registered as a Psychologist or Psychological Associate in any jurisdiction, or who are registered in a jurisdiction where the requirements are not equivalent to Ontario’s requirements.

The complete requirements for registration as either a Psychologist or Psychological Associate are set out in the Registration Regulation .

Registration Committee Dates

Additional submissions for files scheduled for review by the Registration Committee must be received at least 10 days in advance of the meeting date.

Submissions should be emailed to cpo@cpo.on.ca to the attention of the Registration Committee.

If you are submitting an application for registration for the first time please note: new applications for either Supervised Practice or Interim Autonomous Practice are first reviewed by the Registrar, not the Registration Committee.

  • March 7 – 8, 2024 (submission deadline 5 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) on February 26, 2024
  • May 9 – 10, 2024 (submission deadline 5 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) on April 29, 2024

Why is there a submission deadline to the Registration Committee meeting?

It’s necessary for the College to establish a deadline for receiving submissions to the Registration Committee to ensure there is adequate time to process the information, plan accordingly, and most importantly to have the information prepared for the Registration Committee so that they can review it in advance of their scheduled meeting.

The College often receives a high volume of submissions to the Registration Committee. Making a submission to the Committee well in advance of the submission deadline assists the College’s administrative staff in their planning and allows time for  staff to contact you in case it’s discovered that additional information or clarification is needed before the information goes before the Committee.

The Registration Committee meets every other month, if you miss the submission deadline your submission will be scheduled for the next available Committee meeting instead.
