Appendix B – Timelines in the Registration Process

Registration Guidelines

The following are the usual amount of time that each of the steps in the registration process will take, although in some circumstances longer times may be needed:

From the issuance of a certificate authorizing supervised practice until writing the Jurisprudence & Ethics Examination
From the time an application is complete (application form, fee, transcripts, CES/WES evaluations, supervisors’ agreement forms) until initial review
4 to 6 weeks
From the time of initial review until a written response and supporting documents are sent
1 to 2 weeks
If, at initial review, an application is referred to the Registration Committee (the Committee meets every 6 to 8 weeks) for further review
30 days notice period + number of days until the next meeting
From the time of initial review until a written response and supporting documents are sent
1 to 2 weeks
From the date of a Committee meeting until a written decision is sent
4 to 6 weeks
Psychological associate applicants require 4 years (6000 hours) of acceptable work experience
4 years to 6 years (if part time work experience)
From the date of issuance of a certificate authorizing supervised practice until issuance of a certificate authorizing autonomous practice
a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 2 years
From the issuance of a certificate authorizing supervised practice until writing the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology
a maximum of 1 year
a maximum of 1 year
From the issuance of a certificate authoring supervised practice until taking the Oral Examination
a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 2 years
From the date of receipt of an application for the title psychologist until expiry (i.e. if all supporting documents are not received and a certificate for supervised practice issued)
2 years
From the date of receipt of an application for the title psychological associate until expiry (i.e. if all supporting documents are not received and a certificate for supervised practice is issued)
2 years, or 2 years after completion of the required work experience, whichever is later
