Council Highlights – December 17, 2021

The College Council met virtually on December 17, 2021. Information provided to members of Council for their review in anticipation of their deliberations and decision-making was posted on the homepage of College website a week in advance of meeting. Following the meeting, this information was archived on the website in the Council Meeting Materials Reference Library.

POLICY ISSUES

Council amended Standard 6. Representation of Services of the Standards of Professional Conduct, 2017, specifically 6.1.d. and 6.1.e., to indicate that the Registrar, on behalf of the College, is authorized to approve changes to a member’s listing of their highest academic degree in situations where no other avenue for approval is available.

Council approved expanding the College’s current eligibility for Time Limited Registration for Practitioners from Other Jurisdictions to include practitioners who request authorization to provide short term service to:

  • existing and former clients who have moved permanently to Ontario to facilitate their termination or transfer to another practitioner; and
  • individuals living in Ontario who are part of a family unit receiving service in another jurisdiction.

Council considered and adopted an evaluation form to assess the effectiveness of Council meetings with an ongoing focus on continuous improvement. It reflects the Council’s commitment to an accountable, transparent, and an open process of engagement, evaluation, and constructive dialogue.

Council approved, for circulation, amendments to By-law 5: Selection of Committee Chairs and Committee Members and By-law 20: Election to Council, Qualifications, Terms of Office and Conditions for Disqualification.  The proposed amendments would require nominees for Council election and those seeking a role on College Committees to complete an orientation prior to putting their names forward. In addition, the amendments proposed a “cooling off” period between a member’s service on a psychology advocacy organization and their eligibility to run for College Council.  The consultation was circulated to members on January 5, 2022 with comments requested by Monday, March 7, 2022. The proposed amendments and a feedback submission form is available here.

Council approved revisions to the following policy:

  • Policy II-2(v): Alternative Documentation Guideline
